I am Benji Overcash, a 25-year-old American living in Sydney, Australia as a postgraduate student in the Department of Ancient History at Macquarie University.  My degree focus is in New Testament and Early Christianity.

My primary research interests are: the Johannine literature, particularly the Gospel of John; eschatological and temple motifs in John; the interfaces between the earliest Christians and the Greco-Roman world and, especially, the Jewish culture; and the development of Greek and NT exegesis.

Clearly, the Bible is an important part of my life. I believe it to be the special revelation of the living God, conveyed through pen and page. The Psalmist said of the gods of the nations, “They have mouths but cannot speak” (Ps 115:5). But the God of the Bible is the God who speaks: “In the beginning … God said” (Gen 1:1, 3); “In the beginning was the Word” (John 1:1).

Even before there was a Bible, then, there was the Word of God. But it is in the Bible that we have the Word of God recorded, and it is the Bible that bears the salvific story of “the Word [who] became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). As such, it warrants careful study and interpretation. I intend for this blog to be an expression of that belief. From time to time, I may discuss other things, too. Please join me.
